Activities in Hallgrímskirkja

All services in Hallgrímskirkja are conducted according to the manual of the Icelandic National Church. Services of other Christian denominations are subject to the permission of the church's priests. Services of other than Christian denominations cannot be held in the church.

Events are only booked during church opening hours.

The church cannot be booked for ceremonies until it is known which priest will officiate at the ceremony.

All bookings and reservations for weddings, baptisms, confirmations and events must be confirmed at least three weeks in advance. Otherwise, the booking will be cancelled.

The services of the church's pastor and organist are not included in the church rental price for ceremonies.

Bookings are only accepted on weekdays between 10 am and 5 pm.

Access to the church's musical instruments is only granted with the permission of the organist.

  • Gifting

    For couples inside the National Church ISK 30,000 and the nave is closed (tower open). Maximum closing time is 45 min.

    For couples inside the National Church and the entire church is closed (including the tower) ISK 50,000. Maximum closing time is 90 min. (only for large events / 40 people or more).

     

    For couples outside the National Church ISK 75,000 and the nave is closed (tower open). Maximum closing time is 45 min.

    For couples outside the National Church and the entire church is closed (including the tower) ISK 200,000. Maximum closing time is 90 min. (only for large events / 40 people or more).

     

    Weddings of foreign couples can be held on Mondays and Fridays after 1:00 PM. Large wedding ceremonies (30 - 40 people or more) can be held on Saturdays.

  • Baptism

    Baptisms are free in the church and the nave is closed. The maximum closing time of the nave is 45 minutes.


  • Confirmation

  • Funeral

    Funerals can only be booked through funeral homes or at the request of priests. The cost for the services of churchwardens is ISK 50,000.

     

    The church closes 90 minutes before the service begins. Parts of the church may be closed earlier for rehearsals if necessary.


    Musical performances by others than organists outside opening hours are limited to a maximum of 2 hours and a fee of ISK 30,000 (plus VAT) must be paid for the services of churchwardens.

  • Channel

    The church's meeting room can be booked for smaller gatherings (maximum 80 people seated and maximum 100 people standing).


    The hall cannot be booked for special occasions.
