Hallgrímskirkja Parish Committee

At the general meeting on May 31, 2026, new rules of procedure for the parish council of Hallgrímskirkja were approved. From now on, there will be 5 members of the parish council instead of 7, and the executive committee will be abolished.


At the meeting, board members were elected for a two-year term in accordance with the scope for determining the length of the term in the newly approved rules of procedure of the Kirkjuþing.


Einar Karl Haraldsson is chairman, Rúnar Vilhjálmsson is vice chairman, Guðrún Hlíðdal Gunnarsdóttir is secretary, Guðlaugur Gunnarsson is treasurer, and Harpa Þórsdóttir is the arts and community representative.


The following were elected alternates to the parish committee: Ágústa Th Ólafsdóttir, Július Viggó Ólafsson, Kristín Björg Knútsdóttir, Svava Bernharðsdóttir and Óskar Jónsson.


At the general meeting, Bára Guðmannsdóttir and Jóhannes Pálmason were honored for nearly four decades of continuous service on the parish committee. Jóhannes was chairman for 31 years and has since served as deputy chairman, and Bára has been a pillar of strength in the Hallgrímskirkja Women's Association throughout.
