Evening Church in Hallgrímskirkja

The purpose of the evening church is to open the church doors to all who wish to further deepen their religious experience or who do not feel comfortable in traditional worship.

Music, silence, contemplation, and stillness are the hallmarks of evening church.

The Evening Church is a collaborative project between the Cathedral and Hallgrímskirkja. The priests and staff of these city center churches work together, and a strong musical team provides musical performances.

The evening church is open to everyone and is suitable for many people. Welcome.

Evening Mass will be held in Hallgrímskirkja this fall on September 24, October 22 and November 26, and before Christmas on December 17, 2026.

Evening Church

The evening church is an unconventional time in form and content. The atmosphere is informal and relaxed. Lighting, music and short reflections intertwine with the stillness and tranquility of the space. We invite you to meditate, pray, walk around, light candles, write down your thoughts or prayers or sit in the pews or rest on the mattresses in the church.
