The Hallgrímskirkja Choir is waiting for an autumn concert in Hallgrímskirkja on October 26th at 5 pm.

Pearls from the history of church music will be performed for unaccompanied choir. The program is divided into three parts and will begin with three outstanding works of German/Austrian romanticism by Mendelssohn, Bruckner and Reger. Then there will be recent works with Latin texts by Icelandic composers, all commissioned by the Hallgrímskirkja Choir. Finally, attention will be turned to the 20th and 21st centuries with motets by John Tavener, Knut Nystedt and Arvo Part, who celebrated his ninetieth birthday this September.

Hallgrímskirkja Choir was founded in the fall of 2021 and now has over 60 members. Since its founding, the choir has participated in celebrations in Hallgrímskirkja, as well as performing concerts and recording. It puts a lot of effort into performing Icelandic choral music and promotes innovation by premiering new compositions. The choir has had fruitful collaborations with the Brák Baroque Band, the Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. Steinar Logi Helgason is the conductor of the Hallgrímskirkja Choir.
