Gereon Krahforst was born in Bonn, Germany, in 1973 and grew up in an artistic household. He studied composition, musicology, church music, piano, and organ in Cologne and Frankfurt, and continued his studies through masterclasses with leading organists including Marie-Claire Alain, Jon Laukvik, Petr Eben, and Guy Bovet.


Krahforst has held numerous distinguished positions as organist and director of music in Bonn, Mönchengladbach, Minden, and Paderborn, and he taught organ repertoire and improvisation at the Hannover University of Music and Drama. Krahforst has also served as organist at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Marbella, Spain, and as cathedral organist and associate director of music at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis.

Since 2015 he has served as abbey organist and artistic director of the international organ concert series at Maria Laach Abbey, one of Europe’s most important Romanesque monasteries. He has appeared in cathedrals, churches, and concert halls throughout Europe, Asia, and North America.

As a composer, Krahforst has written works for piano, organ, choir, voice, string quartet, and orchestra. He has received numerous international awards for composition, piano, and organ performance, and is especially acclaimed for his improvisational artistry.
